Rationale and design of a home-based care model of community care for epilepsy in lowand middle-income countries.

Epilepsy affects 50 million people worldwide and 40 million of these live in low and middle income countries (LMICs). Moreover, nearly 80% of those living in LMICs do not recieve the appropriate treatment and the level of care and support that they are supposed to receive. The GlobalBurden of Diseases Study estimated that epilepsy accounted for 12,418 million disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) in 2015, thus ranked fifth in the list of neurological disorders causing disability and death on a global scale (GBD 2015 Neurological Collaborators Group, 2017).5, 6
